Experience

Google - Staff Software Engineer

Senior Software Engineer (Oct 2018 - April 2023)
Software Engineer III (Oct 2016 - Oct 2018)
Software Engineer II (July 2015 - October 2016)

I joined Google NYC in 2015, and work across Google's suite of Search and News products. My current area of focus involves reducing the overall complexity of the distributed systems that power news experiences across Google.

I'm a strong advocate for team culture rooted in psychological safety and growth opportunities, having found that this makes a team greater than the sum of its parts.

I've done a bit of everything over the years, including:
  • Making significant contributions to Search's feature model and rendering architecture
  • Improving our understanding of user queries at serving time
  • Designing, running, and analyzing dozens of live traffic A/B experiments
  • Everything that comes with a production release rotation (deployments, monitoring, resolving production outages, etc.)
  • Building rich, interactive user-interfaces in collaboration with Design
  • Conducting qualitative user surveys in collaboration with UXR
  • Contributing to product roadmaps in collaboration with Product Management
  • Streamlining internal processes in collaboration with Program Management
A nonexhaustive list of the consumer-facing products I've led and worked on:
Other experience of note:
  • Current co-chair of our DEI Championship program
  • Member of our inaugural Leading for Liberation cohort (with The Adaway Group)
  • Hosted 5 engineers through the now-retired Engineering Residency program (100% conversion rate to full-time)
  • Mentored 5 summer interns

Alphabet Workers Union-CWA - Founding Member

NYC Chapter Coordinator (2021)

I'm one of the founding members of AWU-CWA, which we've grown into a 1400+ strong organization working to improve the conditions of every worker at Alphabet. In our first public year, I was elected by our membership to serve as NYC's first ever chapter coordinator.

You can learn more about our accomplishments here, and about CWA's Campaign to Organize Digital Employees here.

Education

Tufts University

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tufts with a B.S. in Computer Science. A few members of the faculty I'm especially grateful for:

  • Remco Chang, my Intro to CS professor, undergrad advisor, and lead at VALT.
  • Ming Chow, my Data Structures professor and a ubiquotous influence on everyone in the program.
  • Noah Mendelsohn, who taught my favorite class, Internet-Scale Distributed Systems. I'll never try to implement a remote file-transfer protocol in one night again.

During my junior and senior year, I was epee captain on the Men's Fencing Team.
